„Exit“ (complexe 13)

Picture overview

This Bildstück is composed of a single scene. The two protagonists (man, woman) face each other during an initially cheerful (breakfast) atmosphere. During the course of their conversation, the atmosphere “shifts” and a lurking problem (an abortion) becomes apparent. The situation subsequently escalates into violence and grief.

The piece is consciously filled with surrealistic elements. Upstage stands a kind of tabernacle with an image of an embryo; the rest of the backdrop is made up of a kind a coordinate system. During the course of the piece, the protagonists detach themselves from the real stage and become figures along the lines and points of the coordinate system. Their actions are simultaneously mirrored in side mirrors - the next foreseeable action is already visible in the mirrors even before it happens.

The coordinate system and the side mirrors are symbols of the “Predictable”, the pre-determined aspects of an action. They contrast with the spectrum of the protagonist’s emotions.
